Restraining Order

California Superior Courts issue restraining orders to protect individuals from harassment, abuse, or threats. Key types include Domestic Violence, Civil Harassment, Elder Abuse, and Gun/School Violence. The process involves filing forms, obtaining temporary protection, serving papers, and attending a court hearing to get a long-term order.

In addition, a California Emergency Protective Order (EPO) is a short-term, 5-7 day restraining order requested by law enforcement, not individuals, to provide immediate protection from domestic violence, abuse, or stalking. It is issued 24/7 by a judge upon police request and can order the abuser to move out and stay away.
