Public Records Act
The Sonoma State University Police Department is committed to transparency and public accountability. In accordance with the California Public Records Act (CPRA) (Government Code § 7920.000 et seq.), members of the public have the right to access records relating to the conduct of the public’s business.
The CPRA provides for the disclosure of existing, identifiable records. SSUPD is not required to prepare new records in response to a request, or to compile, synthesize, summarize or index information or records in a form that does not exist at the time of the request.
How to request records
There are three ways to request public records:
- By phone: (707)644-4444 during business/lobby hours
- By E-mail: [email protected]
- By mail/in-person by completing the Record Request Form available here (Police Report Request Form):
Sonoma State University Police Department, 1801 E Cotati Ave. Rohnert Park, CA 94928
Business/Lobby hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00AM-4:30PM, Friday 8:00AM-4:00PM
The SSUPD processes requests during the business/lobby hours. SSUPD will respond to a request within 10 days of receiving it. A response may be that the record is available for release; that it requires more time to process; it is temporarily unavailable and the reason for that, or that it is not available for release and the reason why not.
